Cello Lessons with Dorothy

I picked up the cello as an adult and had been taking lessons from a different teacher for about 2 years. I had reached a point where I felt like I was stuck and wasn’t making much progress. I had contemplated giving up, until I found Dorothy here on KSL and from reading the positive reviews I decided to give her a try. I have now been taking lessons from her for about 8 months and I feel that I have learned and improved so much more than I had in the previous two years and have found a renewed sense of motivation and accomplishment.

Dorothy is an excellent cello teacher. I started taking lessons as an adult. I took for a year with a different teacher, but wasn’t progressing very much. Then, I transferred to Dorothy and was extremely pleased with the change. I started to progress much faster. Dorothy pushed me to achieve, while at the same time respecting my schedule and priorities as an adult. She made lessons fun by giving me challenging and interesting pieces to play. She also helped me to be ready for recitals and competitions which I thought were out of reach as an adult. I would highly recommend her to anyone– adult or child!

I am 25 years old and JUST started playing the cello. I had a small background in piano and violin (NOTHING like cello), and have progressed rapidly in just a few lessons. Dorothy caters to every need. She is fun, kind, and is quick to make adjustments so you don’t develop bad habits that will make playing difficult as you progress. Her passion and excitement along with a laid back and relaxed environment make you feel comfortable and confident while you play and learn. I wish I would have found her sooner!

I am 49 years old and started taking lessons from Dorothy a year and a half ago. I have been so thrilled with the progress I have made! She is excellent at teaching the many cello techniques and empowering me to do my best.

I would highly recommend Dorothy to anyone who has a child playing the cello. There is SO much the schools leave out that she is able to teach. Her passion shows through and rubs off on the students quickly! My son learned so much from her and he still utilizes everything he learned from her in his high school orchestra!

My son started cello in 7th grade orchestra. There were a lot of holes in his education. After a year in orchestra we hired Dorothy for private lessons. She was able to fill in all the holes of his education, help him with form and greatly improve. He loves going to lessons because she takes the time to get to know the students while making it fun and challenging. I would highly recommend Dorothy to anyone who has a child interested in taking cello lessons.

I have a young, teenage granddaughter who doesn’t like many things, but she LOVES taking cello from Dorothy! She looks forward to her lessons and she doesn’t seem to mind practicing either! One reason she likes it is because she makes so much steady progress! That’s very reinforcing! I am VERY, VERY grateful to have found Dorothy! She’s extremely supportive and accommodating despite some special circumstances in my granddaughter’s life.

Dorothy has been my daughter’s cello teacher for over a year. I’m willing to make a longer commute to take my daughter to Dorothy because she has been exceptional as a teacher and mentor for her. Dorothy is great at motivating my daughter to practice and making sure I’m not wasting my money on a lesson. I’ve been extremely happy with the progress my daughter has made in Dorothy’s studio and the skill and patience Dorothy has for her students. It’s been a great environment for my daughter.

It’s always been hard to get my daughter to love, or even like her music teachers, but she loved Miss Dorothy from day 1. She loves her sense of humor and how she is always learning new things. Even though my daughter had played the cello with her school orchestra for 2 years already, Miss Dorothy was teaching her valuable basics that she had somehow missed and she filled in the gaps to make my daughter’s foundation more solid. Miss Dorothy has been my daughter’s private orchestra teacher for a year now and her school orchestra teacher commented that she was really impressed at how much she had advanced and that she had made great strides. Thank you, Miss Dorothy!

My daughter was nervous and shy at first but quickly connected with Dorothy. My daughter had never played before and I am ASTOUNDED at how quickly she has progressed! Dorothy even noticed a new cello book my daughter had bought with some of her favorite Coldplay songs and helped her with some of them. Really well worth the money!

My Teacher Mrs. Olsen is amazing. I have only played for 2 1/2 years and have already made the highest orchestra in my high school and I’m only a freshman. It is all because of her. She is also really fun. She always makes me laugh. She has helped me love to play the cello even more than I did before. She gives really good insights on how to improve my technique. She’s awesome! I would highly recommend her!

I would absolutely recommend Dorothy to my friends. She is a very talented, patient, and professional teacher. Lessons from her have been a great experience!
